[Financial News] GC Biopharma is joining forces with LG CNS to build AI-powered smart factories. The plan is to introduce automation technologies at key production plants and integrate production, logistics and quality data to improve manufacturing efficiency and quality management.
GC Biopharma said on the 14th that it had formed a strategic partnership with LG CNS and would pursue its “SMART Operations Driven 2030” roadmap. The goal is to complete the automation of major production lines and their transition to autonomous operations in stages by 2030.
The roadmap will be tailored to the products made and process characteristics of each plant. At the Ochang plant, the company will build an automated production line for a new plasma-derived product under development, “20% immunoglobulin for subcutaneous injection (SCIG).” At the Hwasun plant, it will pursue automated production of its mRNA platform and key vaccine products, including influenza and varicella vaccines. At the Eumseong plant, it plans to introduce a continuous manufacturing process for solid dosage forms to shorten production time and improve product quality consistency.
Automation will also be expanded beyond production lines to supporting processes such as raw-material loading, packaging and transfers to logistics warehouses. The company plans to establish an integrated management system that links production, logistics, quality and equipment data to manage the entire manufacturing process, from raw-material receipt to product shipment.
The company will also use AI to optimize process operations. Data analysis will be used to predict quality anomalies early and detect equipment failures in advance. The plan is to reduce quality errors by automating document preparation and review in quality assurance (QA), and establishing automated quality-control (QC) testing and data analysis systems.
“Process intelligence based on data and AI is a key competitive advantage in the future pharmaceutical and biotech industry,” said Shin Woong, head of operations at GC Biopharma. “We will apply LG CNS’s digital transformation technologies throughout the manufacturing process to supply high-quality medicines quickly and reliably.”
“Drawing on our accumulated AI and smart factory capabilities, we will support GC Biopharma’s manufacturing innovation,” said Jang Min-yong, head of LG CNS’s Chemical and Battery Business Division.
