【Financial News, Hongcheon = reporter Kim Gi-seop】Hongcheon County Governor Shin Young-jae sat face-to-face with residents in an everyday communication space inside a traditional market—not in his office at the county government building—and listened directly to their concerns about daily inconveniences and local issues.
According to Hongcheon County, the county held a Day of Communication between the county governor and residents from 2 to 4 p.m. that day at Hongcheon Ieumteo in Hongcheon Traditional Market. For two hours, Governor Shin spoke informally with residents who visited Ieumteo and heard a range of suggestions, from everyday inconveniences to issues concerning county administration as a whole.
The Day of Communication is a resident-participation program that began in November 2023 and has continued for nearly three years. With no separate application process, any resident can meet the county governor directly and freely share views on everyday civil affairs or county administration. Unlike perfunctory meetings, it has become a channel for bringing the authentic voices of residents into county administration.
Hongcheon Ieumteo, where the event was held, is a space opened by Governor Shin as a flagship project of the eighth popularly elected administration, and it continues to operate with expanded functions under the ninth. Residents can consult about county administration and civil affairs while out shopping, without having to go to the county government building. It also serves as an on-the-ground administrative service point closely tied to everyday life, helping older merchants unfamiliar with digital devices complete various online applications on their behalf, among other things.
Hongcheon County Governor Shin Young-jae said, “Ieumteo is a place where you can stop by while out shopping and comfortably strike up a conversation,” adding, “I will listen closely to the inconveniences and suggestions that market merchants and residents encounter in their daily lives, connect each one to county administration, and deliver tangible change in return.”
