[Financial News] Businessman Eun Hyun-jang, who runs the YouTube channel “God of Business,” has personally addressed remarks about actor Kim Soo-hyun that stirred controversy after he disclosed that he had received a notice concerning the distribution of funds seized from the account of Kim Se-ui, the head of the Garo Sero Research Institute, who was indicted while in custody (Gaseyeon).
On the 13th, Eun explained during a YouTube livestream why he had said the previous day that he “didn’t want anything from Kim Soo-hyun and hoped he wouldn’t even act like he knew me,” cautioning against reading too much into his words. He dismissed misunderstandings raised by some, saying, “What I meant was that I didn’t want Kim Soo-hyun to go out of his way to promote my products or help me.”
Earlier, on the 12th, Eun shared a notice he had received from the Seoul Central District Court about the date for distribution of proceeds seized from Gaseyeon’s bank account. The notice listed Kim Soo-hyun and four others as the first-priority creditors for distribution, and Eun Hyun-jang and four (five) others as second-priority creditors.
In response to some viewers who said, “Shouldn’t Kim Soo-hyun be thanking Eun Hyun-jang?”, Eun said, “I have no personal relationship with him and don’t want anything from him at all.” He added, “Someone as remarkable as Kim Soo-hyun just needs to earn a lot of foreign currency overseas and become a great actor. Everyone just needs to do their job in their own field,” making his position clear.
He went on to mention his broadcasting style, adding, “If Kim Soo-hyun’s fans tune in, see how rough my broadcasts are, and leave, it will only lower the viewing time.”
Eun also claimed that he and his staff analyzed videos and gathered evidence during the investigation into Gaseyeon, then submitted the materials to prosecutors, helping them identify criminal proceeds worth about 170 million won. He has continued his legal dispute with Kim and also obtained a court order approving the provisional attachment of inmate funds. Contrary to a request from Kim’s side, the court had ruled that the funds would be seized except for 200,000 won per month (about 6,600 won a day).
Meanwhile, Garo Sero Research Institute head Kim Se-ui was indicted while in custody and is standing trial on charges including spreading false claims through YouTube broadcasts and press conferences to the effect that Kim Soo-hyun had dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor, and that pressure from Kim’s side to repay debts was behind her death. Investigators determined that an audio recording released by Kim was generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and that mobile messenger conversations had also been manipulated. They charged him with defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc., violations of the Anti-Stalking Act and the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, attempted coercion, and threats, among other offenses. Police decided not to refer the allegation that Kim Soo-hyun had dated a minor for prosecution, citing a lack of objective evidence.
