[Financial News] Unlike the National Pension Service, the Teachers' Pension Service and Korea Post did not defer rebalancing. As a result, cumulative investment gains and losses on domestic stocks fell by 124.8 trillion won, according to the figures.
At the Health and Welfare Committee's parliamentary audit on the 14th, Rep. Baek Jong-heon of the People Power Party said, “The National Pension Service's allocation to domestic stocks was 29.13% at the end of June, but domestic stocks returned minus 22.99% in July,” making this point.
Rep. Baek said, “The Teachers' Pension Service and Korea Post (postal savings and insurance) did not defer rebalancing in response to market conditions from 2017 to 2026. The Government Employees Pension also adjusted its domestic stock allocation back within the permitted range within 20 business days after exceeding the upper limit in February and May–June this year.”
Lee Man-hee, chair of the Health and Welfare Committee and a People Power Party lawmaker, disclosed that the National Pension Service had replied, “It is estimated that excess returns would have been generated from February through June, when rebalancing of the National Pension Fund was deferred, compared with a scenario in which it was not deferred. Excess returns are also estimated as of the end of July, when the fund's returns were made public.”
The chair said, “Foreign investors sold 170 trillion won and left during the hot market in May and June. Retail investors absorbed those sales,” adding, “The National Pension Service should have played a role in cooling the overheated stock market at the time.”
Kim Sung-joo, president of the National Pension Service, said, “The current figure is negative compared with the KOSPI's rise to 9,000 points, but compared with the end of December 2025, the National Pension Service is generating higher returns than pension funds in other countries.”
Lee Gyu-hong, chief investment officer (CIO) of the National Pension Service, said, “I will make the stability and profitability of fund management my top priorities.”
