The Daegu City Council of the Workplace and Factory Saemaul Movement successfully held the “Adding the World to the Taste of Korea! K-Food Making” event with Keimyung University’s Saemaul Club and international students at Jungni Senior Center in Seo-gu, Daegu, on the 12th.
A total of 50 people attended the event, including students from Keimyung University’s Saemaul Club, 20 international students, officials from the Daegu City and Seo-gu Workplace and Factory Saemaul Councils, and members of the Seo-gu Saemaul Women’s Association.
An event official said, “This event was organized to give international students an opportunity to experience Korea’s traditional food culture firsthand, and to help university students and Saemaul members communicate, understand one another’s cultures, and build friendships.”
Participants made kimbap and tteokbokki, two representative Korean dishes, learning about the characteristics of Korean food and how to prepare it. They shared the food they had made and enjoyed a meaningful time sharing their cultures and daily lives.
In particular, members of the Seo-gu Saemaul Women’s Association took an active role, from preparing ingredients to guiding the cooking, helping international students experience Korean food culture and Saemaul’s warm spirit of sharing naturally.
Vice Chair Yang Chan-euk said, “I hope this event will be a valuable time to understand different cultures and share our feelings, going beyond a simple food-making experience,” and stressed, “I hope the international students felt the taste of Korea and Saemaul’s warmhearted spirit and made good memories.”
Meanwhile, the Daegu City Council of the Workplace and Factory Saemaul Movement plans to continue working to foster a community culture of communication and harmony across generations and nationalities through various exchange activities with university students and international students.
