[Financial News] Chief of Staff to the President Kang Hoon-sik, who had announced his intention to resign, personally announced the appointment of his successor on the 14th.
At a briefing at Chunchugwan in the Blue House that day, Kang announced that President Lee Jae-myung had tapped NTS Commissioner Lim Gwang-hyun as the new chief of staff.
Kang had previously offered his resignation to President Lee on the 21st of last month.
As he wraps up his role as the first chief of staff of the Lee Jae-myung government, Kang said, “I sincerely thank everyone who supported us, helping a government launched without a transition committee and a Blue House that started without a single pen reach the point where they could dream of an irreplaceable Korea.” He added, “This is thanks to all public servants, including Blue House staff, the journalists who have watched us with affection, and, above all, the people, who have always been our guideposts and pillars of support. I am deeply grateful.”
He reflected, “I still feel the same way I did when I said I gave up my seat in the National Assembly because I wanted to show the people a successful government. Those were 499 days of striving with that sole purpose.”
He also said, “There were many shortcomings. Even so, I was genuinely grateful for every voice that supported me and every person who offered criticism, from my first day as chief of staff to now.” He added, “I’ll reflect on whether I was too impatient in wanting to repay that goodwill. I’ll remember for a long time the moments when I could have done better and the things I should have examined more deeply.”
Kang said, “I will take with me the belief that the Lee Jae-myung government will surely succeed, because of the people and situations I have seen, heard and experienced.” He continued, “The newly launched Blue House will move even closer to becoming a successful government. Please continue to trust and support us, as always.”
