[Financial News] The story of an off-duty firefighter who saved the life of a citizen who collapsed from cardiac arrest by performing CPR has come to light.
According to Newsis on the 14th, at around 3 p.m. on the 10th, a man in his 60s, identified as A, suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed at a badminton court inside the Dongducheon City Environmental Management Office.
Firefighter Kim Yun-bal of Pocheon Fire Station happened to be taking part in a club activity on his day off when he witnessed what happened and immediately went over to A.
After checking A’s consciousness and breathing and getting no response, Firefighter Kim immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). At the same time, he asked a nearby citizen to call 119. After about two minutes of CPR, A began trembling both arms and making breathing sounds, and soon regained consciousness.
Firefighter Kim stayed at the scene, monitoring A’s condition until the paramedics arrived, and then handed him over to them. A was transported to the hospital after regaining consciousness.
The story came to light after A’s son posted a message of thanks on the “Let’s Praise” board on the Pocheon Fire Station website. He expressed his gratitude, saying that thanks to Firefighter Kim stepping in and taking immediate action, including CPR, his father regained consciousness and was able to be taken to the hospital quickly.
Firefighter Kim said, “I only did what any firefighter should do in an emergency,” adding, “It’s important for anyone who finds a patient in cardiac arrest to call 119 promptly and perform CPR immediately.”
