[Financial News] Seoul Gangnam Fire Station held an immersive ‘A Day in the Life of a Firefighter’ experience to familiarize people with working conditions on the front lines of firefighting and build broader support for strengthening the community safety net.
Seoul Gangnam Fire Station said on the 14th that it had held an on-site event called ‘A Day in the Life of a Firefighter’ on the 9th with Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kang Shin-wook, who experienced firefighters’ daily work firsthand.
The event was organized to give participants firsthand experience of the actual working conditions and challenges faced by firefighters and to build support for strengthening the community safety net.
The experience began at 9 a.m. with participants putting on firefighting gear as the alarm signaling an actual fire response sounded. After responding to the fire, they visited a rental apartment complex in Suseo-dong and installed residential standalone fire alarm detectors alongside firefighters.
A standalone fire alarm detector sounds an alarm in the early stages of a fire, helping people evacuate quickly. Through the event, Gangnam Fire Station also highlighted the importance of installing fire-safety equipment in homes.
At lunchtime, the participant ate with firefighters on duty and heard their views on fire service administration overall, including shift-work conditions and staffing.
In the afternoon, the participant rode in a command vehicle to observe the command process during a wildfire-response drill, then handled a fire hose nozzle and took part in a water-spraying exercise. At the rescue squad’s training ground, the participant also put on rescue gear and took part in a drill to search for and rescue someone trapped in a confined space.
Gang Dong-man, chief of Seoul Gangnam Fire Station, said, “Thank you for experiencing firsthand the tense scenes firefighters face every day and for showing such deep empathy.” He added, “We will continue to do our utmost to improve firefighters’ working conditions through close communication and make Gangnam-gu a place where residents can feel safe.”
