According to industry sources on the 14th, LX Pantos recently established TDL Lab, a space for researching and testing logistics technologies, at the Megawise Cheongna Logistics Center in Cheongna, Incheon.
TDL (Tech Driven Logistics) refers to LX Pantos’s technology-based logistics operating framework for providing customized logistics services. At TDL Lab, the company verifies the maturity of advanced technologies such as robotics and AI before deploying them in actual logistics operations, and works to optimize them to improve operational efficiency.
A key feature is that the space operates as an open-innovation hub in collaboration with external technology companies. LX Pantos plans to establish the “TDL Alliance,” bringing together technology companies in software and hardware, to identify and validate logistics automation technologies before expanding their use to actual business operations.
To that end, since April this year, LX Pantos has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with seven companies in Korea and abroad, including LG CNS Co., Ltd. (LG CNS), Hai Robotics and Libiao Robotics. In June, it agreed to work with LG CNS to build a logistics automation system integrating humanoid and shuttle robots.
LX Pantos has selected five core technology areas: mobile robots, robotic arms, next-generation mobility, AI and digital twins. It plans to use these technologies to advance the unmanned operation, intelligence and optimization of its logistics centers in stages.
In the medium to long term, LX Pantos plans to upgrade its operating model in stages, starting with logistics centers where people and robots work together, and progressing to fully unmanned and then intelligent logistics centers. Rather than simply introducing logistics automation equipment, the company is focused on linking technology validation to actual operations to increase productivity and efficiency across its logistics business.
This technology shift is also closely tied to strengthening LX Pantos’s competitiveness in contract logistics. Its strategy is to apply robotics and AI technologies to meet the differing logistics needs of each customer and optimize logistics center operations to improve service competitiveness.
Eo Jae-hyeok, LX Pantos vice president and head of the CL business division, said, “TDL is not simply about introducing automation equipment. The key is to integrate advanced technologies such as robotics and AI organically and efficiently throughout logistics center operations, and to further refine the operating model to suit each customer. Through collaboration with a range of technology companies, we will validate promising automation and intelligent solutions and progressively realize a future-oriented logistics center operating model.”
