[Financial News]  The identity of Park Yong-su, 52, who is suspected of breaking into the home of a couple in their 60s in Naju, Jeonnam-Gwangju, committing murder and stealing property worth around 11 million won, was made public on the 14th.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency posted Park Yong-su’s personal information—including his name, age and mug shot (a police record photograph documenting a criminal’s appearance)—on its website at 10 a.m. that day. He is being investigated in custody on suspicion of robbery and murder. The information will remain public for one month, from that day through November 13.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency convened the Personal Information Disclosure Review Committee on the afternoon of the 13th and decided to make Park Yong-su’s identity public.
This is the second time Jeonnam police have made public the identity of a violent offender under the Act on the Disclosure of Personal Information of Suspects in Specified Serious Crimes, etc.
In October 2024, police previously made public the identity of Park Dae-seong, 32, who killed a female high school student with a weapon late at night in downtown Suncheon.
Park Yong-su, whose identity was made public that day, is suspected of breaking into the home of a person identified as A in Wanggok-myeon, Naju, on the night of the 5th and killing the couple by stabbing them with a weapon or strangling them.
Investigators found that Park Yong-su had come to know A through visits to adult gaming arcades. They also found that after the crime, he withdrew 6 million won from an ATM using a card in the victim’s name and transferred 5 million won to a bank account in his own name.
Investigators found that Park Yong-su spent a substantial portion of the money he stole, including by sending it to the owner of an adult gaming arcade.
Park Yong-su has reportedly maintained since his arrest that the victim couple owed him money. Police are leaning toward the claim being false and focusing on establishing the exact circumstances of the case and the motive for the crime.
A police official said, “We will focus on establishing the exact circumstances of the case and the motive until the case is referred to the Public Prosecution Office on the 15th,” adding, “We plan to continue the investigation in consultation with the Public Prosecution Office after the referral as well, to ensure that appropriate punishment is handed down.”
