[Financial News] As artificial intelligence (AI) and education technology are being introduced in earnest into classrooms, a forum was held to explore responsible ways to use AI and teaching approaches tailored to classroom needs. Visang Education said on the 14th that it had participated as a partner in the 2nd World Culture and English Lesson Plan Competition, hosted by the Korean Association of Secondary English Education and the Asia-Pacific Association of Language and Culture Education, and organized by Incheon National University’s Corpus Research Institute, selecting and honoring 14 outstanding teaching and learning models. At the awards ceremony held on the 10th, Visang Education presented its Representative Award to recipients of the Excellence and Encouragement Awards.
In line with the aims of the ‘World Culture and English’ subject in the 2022 revised curriculum, the competition focused on developing concrete strategies for using AI in a rapidly changing educational environment and ensuring fairness in performance assessments. Participating teachers designed lessons based on their understanding of world cultures and English communication skills, and proposed lesson plans detailing strategies for using AI in class, the scope and disclosure methods for AI use in performance assessments, and procedures for verifying results.
The competition’s top honor, the grand prize, went to ‘Set Up Shop at the Moonlight Night Market! A Game-Based Asian Food Culture Startup Project, ASIA FOOD STREET,’ co-developed by teachers Jo Jae-beom and Kim Haetsal. The lesson plan was designed to help students improve their English communication skills and understanding of other cultures by taking part in a game about starting an Asian restaurant and completing tasks such as developing a menu, serving customers and presenting a proposal to set up shop. It was particularly highly regarded for detailing the scope of AI use, disclosure methods and verification procedures alongside process-oriented assessment. Other winning entries included ‘The Fun and Vitality of World Culture and English Lessons Through AI’ and ‘Graffiti Project: Developing Critical AI Literacy through AI Logs.’
Jeong Chaegwan, president of the Korean Association of Secondary English Education, said, “I hope that lesson models linking understanding of world cultures with English communication will be identified, and that responsible AI use and fair assessment will take root in schools.”
Heo Bo-uk, CEO of Visang Education’s Content Company, said, “The value of a textbook grows when it is brought to life in diverse ways through teachers’ lessons in the classroom.” Heo Bo-uk added, “Visang Education will continue to support teachers’ lessons with outstanding textbooks and support schools by continually identifying and sharing exemplary lessons and teaching and learning content through VIVASAM.”
Visang Education plans to share the winning entries from the competition through VIVASAM, its teaching and learning support platform, so teachers across the country can refer to a variety of lesson-planning examples.
