[Financial News] LG Electronics is joining forces with GS E&C and U.S. immersion-cooling specialist GRC (Green Revolution Cooling) to advance immersion-cooling technology for AI data centers and develop standard designs. Through the partnership, LG Electronics plans to further enhance its portfolio of cooling solutions tailored to AI data centers and expand related business opportunities.
According to LG Electronics on the 14th, the company signed an MOU with GS E&C and GRC at GS E&C’s headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the previous day, titled “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Development and Cooperation of Data Center Immersion-Cooling Technology and Related Facility Technologies.”
Through the partnership, the three companies will verify the practical applicability of immersion-cooling technology needed for high-performance AI data centers to establish its reliability, and will develop and standardize an integrated solution for building data centers equipped with immersion-cooling solutions.
LG Electronics will provide air-cooling, liquid-cooling and immersion-cooling technologies for AI data centers, along with operating data, and will be responsible for building a cooling-solutions portfolio in line with the standard design developed through this collaboration.
Immersion cooling is a method of cooling electronic components, such as graphics processing units (GPUs) and central processing units (CPUs), by directly immersing them in a special, nonconductive cooling fluid.
LG Electronics offers air-cooling solutions for AI data centers based on high-efficiency chillers that produce large quantities of chilled water and fan wall units (FWUs) that reliably supply cool air and efficiently remove heat.
In addition to various liquid-cooling solutions, including coolant distribution units (CDUs) and cold plates that directly absorb heat from chips, LG Electronics is working to expand its cooling-solutions lineup by adding immersion-cooling solutions.
LG Electronics Vice President Oh Se-gi, head of its ES Research Institute, said, “We will continue to research and develop high-performance, high-efficiency cooling solutions to secure an early lead in the rapidly growing AI data center cooling-solutions market.”
