[Financial News] Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) leader Kim Min-seok said on the 14th, “We are seriously considering all possible measures to correct Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae’s wrongdoing,” adding, “The public and the DPK alike are warning that their patience clearly has limits.”
At a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, Kim said, “The public is watching the chief justice’s conduct,” adding, “Inflating headcounts to improperly cover expensive meal expenses and distributing cash to Supreme Court justices every month as if it were their personal spending money both violate various laws, including the National Finance Act.”
He claimed, “The chief justice’s violations of the Constitution and the law have already piled up: staying silent on the night of the insurrection, interfering in the presidential election through a reversal and remand, improperly undermining the president’s appointment authority, paralyzing the National Assembly’s audit of state affairs by refusing to take an oath, and infringing on the public’s right to a trial by refusing to make a renewed recommendation.”
He went on to say, “I have already made it clear that we would explain matters fully to the public while pointing out the chief justice’s wrongdoing,” adding, “The time to protect (Chief Justice Cho’s) honor and integrity has passed. Patience for a voluntary resignation is not limitless.”
Some in political circles interpret Kim’s remarks that day as leaving open the possibility of the DPK pursuing impeachment of Chief Justice Cho.
