The app was updated so users can start managing their sleep after logging data for just three days, instead of the previous requirement of at least seven days. The running training program was also divided into more levels to cater to experienced users.
Samsung Electronics said on the 14th that it had enhanced its personalized health coaching service through an update to the Samsung Health app. Samsung Health is a platform that records health data, including exercise, sleep and diet, and connects with Galaxy Watch to help users manage their health.
The revamp lowered the minimum data requirement to start sleep coaching from seven days in a month to three days within the past two weeks. Based on their sleep records and questionnaire responses, users receive a coaching program tailored to their sleep type, lasting four to eight weeks.
The questionnaire asks about users’ usual sleep regularity, whether they wake during the night, alcohol and caffeine consumption, and their subjective sleep score, among other things. Each week, the coaching program suggests new sleep habits in stages and also tracks sleep satisfaction and changes in lifestyle habits.
The app also provides checklists and sleep tips that users can put into practice in their daily lives. Examples include avoiding smartphone use during the hour before bedtime, avoiding caffeine for six hours before bedtime, and stretching outdoors after waking up.
A new “Sleep Balance” graph was also introduced to show users’ sleep at a glance. It displays five metrics on one screen—actual sleep duration, sleep regularity, time spent awake during the night, sleep satisfaction and energy score—so users can identify areas for improvement. The app also provides a message each morning analyzing the previous night’s sleep, along with weekly and final reports.
“Running Coach” has expanded its training levels from 10 to 12. Tailored training programs for users at higher levels have been added, enabling experienced runners to adjust their pace and pursue more ambitious goals.
The feature for sharing running records on social media has also been enhanced. Running data recorded in Samsung Health can be converted into templates tailored to each social media platform and shared.
Park Heon-su, head of the Digital Health Team in Samsung Electronics’ MX Business, said, “Samsung Health’s personalized coaching, which helps users fully understand their own health data, is the first step toward bringing healthy changes to everyday life.” He added, “We will continue to develop Samsung Health into a trusted health platform, drawing on the Galaxy ecosystem and our expertise in digital health technology.”
The new features will be rolled out gradually through updates to Samsung Health. Eligibility and availability timing may vary.
