[Financial News] Handok is organizing an educational program for people with type 1 diabetes and their families to mark World Diabetes Day. With a pancreatic disability category newly established following this year’s revision to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, the program will also provide information on disease management and related support systems.
Handok said on the 14th that it is recruiting participants for the “Confident Steps Campaign—Type 1 Diabetes Class,” held in partnership with the Korea Type 1 Diabetes Association.
The class will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Handok Future Complex in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. Around 120 people will be recruited, and anyone with type 1 diabetes or a family member can apply free of charge. The application deadline is Oct. 28.
The program will include talks by medical specialists, diet and exercise coaching, guidance on pancreatic disability registration procedures and support programs, and a panel discussion. Participants can learn about blood glucose management and ways to maintain healthy eating and exercise habits in their daily lives, as well as the eligibility criteria and procedures for pancreatic disability registration and related support programs.
The event will focus in particular on the pancreatic disability category newly added under the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, revised in July this year. Minyoung Kim, head of the Korea Type 1 Diabetes Association, will explain the eligibility criteria, procedures and preparations for registration. A discussion with people who have registered as having a pancreatic disability will share their experiences with the process and changes in their daily lives.
Handok worked with the association from the planning stage to incorporate information needed by people with diabetes and their families into the program. It will also hold a prize drawing for event participants, with continuous glucose monitors and health supplements among the prizes.
The Confident Steps Campaign is a social contribution initiative Handok has run since 2009. It focuses on raising awareness of the importance of diabetes management and supporting people with diabetes in leading healthy lives. Since 2024, the campaign has also run a blood glucose management education program tailored to individual patients.
“The creation of a pancreatic disability category marks an important change in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes, so we organized this program to provide accurate information and practical support,” said Handok Chairman Young-jin Kim. “I hope this class will help deepen understanding of disease management and changes in the system.”
