[Financial News] A story has emerged that someone received death threats from a car owner after reporting a vehicle that was repeatedly parked illegally in a child protection zone in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, sparking public outrage.
On the 13th, a post titled “I received death threats after reporting illegal parking” was uploaded to the online community Bobaedream.
The writer, identified as A, said, “A vehicle was repeatedly parked illegally in the section marked with double yellow lines at a corner of an intersection in a child protection zone near Yurim Elementary School in Hwangseong-dong, Gyeongju, so I reported it through Safety e-Report.” Residents can report vehicles parked within 5 meters of an intersection corner.
A said, “After I reported it, notices threatening to kill me had been attached to the front and rear license plates, and even to the doors,” and shared several photos.
The photos showed papers attached to the license plates and doors bearing phrases such as “Stop reporting me,” “This is private property,” “No CCTV recording” and “Liable for damages.” They also included messages apparently threatening to expose the reporter’s identity, such as “A particular person’s face was captured on the vehicle’s dashcam. If you keep reporting me, I’ll expose your face.” Particularly alarming were threats including “17 cases between September 12 and October 11” and “I’ll k*ll you.”
Internet users who saw the post responded with comments including, “If a license plate is covered, the police can be dispatched to the scene via 112. Attach a photo and report it by text to 112,” “This person doesn’t know how formidable the Act on the Protection of Public Interest Whistleblowers is,” “Isn’t it a hassle to put those up every time?” and “They seem to lack social skills.”
However, it has not been confirmed whether the actual car owner put up the notices shown in the photos or whether any follow-up action, such as a police report, was taken.
