[Financial News] Meritz Securities will work with the foundation operating Canton Network, a global blockchain network, to explore ways to tokenize domestic financial assets and use blockchain infrastructure for institutions.
According to sources in the financial investment industry on the 14th, Meritz Securities signed an MOU related to virtual assets with the Canton Foundation early this month at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by Meritz Securities CEO Jang Won-jae and Canton Foundation head Bib Diwakar, among others.
The agreement centers on cooperation in domestic financial asset tokenization and blockchain infrastructure for institutions. The two sides plan to explore ways to convert financial assets into tokens within the scope permitted by domestic regulations, as well as ways to apply Canton Network’s information-protection features to the capital market.
Meritz Securities also plans to engage with global financial institutions participating in Canton Network. It aims to gradually expand the scope of cooperation in line with developments in the domestic framework for virtual assets.
A Meritz Securities official said, “Our cooperation with the Canton Foundation has laid the groundwork for exploring ways to connect Korea’s capital market with global virtual-asset infrastructure,” adding, “As we monitor progress in the development of the framework, we will gradually explore ways to use virtual-asset infrastructure that is secure and efficient.”
Meanwhile, Canton Network is an institutional blockchain platform developed by the U.S. blockchain company Digital Asset. It was designed with the regulatory environment of traditional financial markets in mind and is distinguished by features such as transaction information protection.
