[Financial News] A man in his 50s who hit an employee with a belt and threatened staff with a shovel at an imported-car dealership where he had bought a luxury car was apprehended by police. After the employee reported him to police, he returned to the dealership the next day and threatened retaliation, and was arrested in the act.
According to YTN, Newsis and other media on the 13th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul has arrested and is investigating A, an executive at a small or midsize cosmetics company in his 50s, on suspicion of special assault and retaliatory threats, among other charges.
A is suspected of slapping employee B and striking B in the face with a belt at an imported-car dealership in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, at around 10:50 a.m. on the 12th.
The investigation found that A had bought an expensive passenger car at the dealership a month earlier and visited on the day of the incident to protest damage to a vehicle part.
When the dealership reportedly told him, “The damage appears to have been caused by the user’s lack of skill in operating the vehicle,” he became enraged and lashed out.
Despite people around him trying to stop him, A smashed a plastic shovel inside the dealership by slamming it against the floor, then threatened employees as he walked around holding its broken shaft. He reportedly continued causing a disturbance and shouting obscenities even in front of police who responded to the call.
A returned to the dealership the next morning, the 13th, and threatened to retaliate over the report. He was arrested in the act at around 10 a.m. by police responding to the call.
During the police investigation, A’s side claimed, “I went there because of a vehicle defect, and the employee assaulted me first, so I responded.” The dealership countered, “It happened while we were trying to stop A, who was causing a disturbance, including spitting.”
Police plan to investigate the details and facts of the incident based on CCTV footage from the scene and witness statements.
