SK Gas said it presented a medium-term shareholder return plan at a board meeting on the 13th to repurchase and retire treasury shares worth 30 billion won annually from 2026 through 2028, and approved the acquisition of 30 billion won worth of treasury shares for the first year. This is an additional return initiative on top of its existing shareholder return policy.
The first tranche of 30 billion won will begin to be purchased through a trust agreement on the 14th, and the shares acquired are scheduled to be retired in full once the purchase is complete. The remaining 60 billion won is also set to be purchased in additional tranches of 30 billion won each in 2027 and 2028, and retired in turn.
SK Gas said this shareholder return plan was made possible by increased earnings-generating capacity and greater financial flexibility resulting from the diversification of its business portfolio. It opted for a three-year program of treasury-share repurchases and retirements rather than a one-off special dividend. The company aims to enhance value per share through continued repurchases and retirements.
A SK Gas official said, “This decision is intended to share with shareholders the results we have generated so far and demonstrate our confidence in future growth and enhancing corporate value. We will continue balanced capital allocation, investing in new businesses with strong growth potential using stable cash flows from existing businesses, while expanding shareholder returns if sufficient investment opportunities are not available.” The official added, “We plan to announce our growth strategy, capital allocation direction and medium- to long-term corporate value enhancement plan at the CEO Investor Day on the 14th.”
