[Financial News] The right-wing Liberal Party’s candidate, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who advanced to the runoff after finishing first in the first round of Brazil’s presidential election, is set to visit his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving his sentence under house arrest, with a judge’s permission. The former president, notorious as ‘Brazil’s Trump,’ is serving a 27-year sentence for attempting a coup after losing to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the 2022 presidential election.
According to the French news agency AFP on the 12th (local time), Brazil’s Supreme Court authorized Flávio Bolsonaro to resume visits with his father on the condition that he not campaign during them. Bolsonaro told reporters in the capital, Brasília, that he planned to visit his father on the morning of the 13th, saying, “I feel anxious. It’s been more than three months since I last saw my father.”
Earlier, visits with his father were banned for 90 days, until the 11th of this month, after Bolsonaro read on YouTube in July a letter his father had sent, despite his father being prohibited from using social media. At the time, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ruled that former President Jair Bolsonaro had violated the conditions of his sentence.
