HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai’s intermediate holding company for its shipbuilding business, said it held the opening ceremony for the Global Marine Center jointly with Siemens Digital Industries Software (Siemens) in Haeundae-gu, Busan, on the 13th. Senior executives from both companies, including Kim Hyung-kwan, CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, and Robert Jones, Siemens’ Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), attended the event.
The Global Marine Center was established to combine HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding expertise with Siemens’ digital engineering capabilities. Around 50 specialists from both companies will be based there and work on joint development in ship design and production—including hulls, electrical systems, piping and cabins—as well as AI platforms and product lifecycle management (PLM).
The establishment of the center is also part of HD Hyundai’s “Future of Shipyard (FOS)” project. HD Hyundai aims to build intelligent shipyards using digital technology by 2030, cutting shipbuilding time by 30% and increasing productivity by 30%.
Kim Hyung-kwan, CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, said, “By combining HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding expertise with Siemens’ digital capabilities, we will accelerate the realization of next-generation intelligent shipyards.”
Siemens CRO Robert Jones said, “Through long-term cooperation between our two companies, we will lead the digital transformation of the shipbuilding industry.”
