[Financial News]  “In the end, Lee Kang-in (Atlético Madrid) has drawn the sword of the law against fake news and blind witch hunts that have gone too far.”
Lee Kang-in, recently singled out as the alleged mastermind behind rumors of discord within the national soccer team and claims that he fomented factions among certain players, was unfairly targeted by a barrage of malicious comments. He has announced a decisive legal response and gone on the offensive.
The Black Label, which manages Lee Kang-in, issued an official statement on the 13th, firmly rejecting as “completely unfounded” the rumors recently circulating online.
The Black Label said, “We have confirmed that content about Lee Kang-in that is completely different from the facts has been spreading indiscriminately, particularly online,” and stressed, “We state that the claims currently being discussed have absolutely nothing to do with Lee Kang-in and are clearly unfounded.”
Earlier, the South Korean national team showed signs of serious internal turmoil during a four-match run of international A matches from September to October, as rumors emerged that key players from the ‘96 Line’ (Kim Min-jae, Hwang In-beom and Hwang Hee-chan) would retire together. In the midst of this, some YouTube channels (cyber wreckers) made malicious claims that “Lee Kang-in colluded with the 96 Line to foment factionalism in order to take Son Heung-min’s captaincy.” As fake news whose veracity had not been confirmed spread, Lee’s personal social media accounts were left devastated by a barrage of indiscriminate malicious comments.
The management company took a hard line, saying it would no longer overlook further speculation and criticism.
The Black Label warned, “We are collecting extensive evidence concerning posts and comments that constitute the spread of false information and defamation,” and said, “We will rigorously pursue all necessary legal procedures depending on the circumstances.”
As baseless rumors and YouTube-originated news reached the point of seriously damaging a national team player’s reputation, Lee Kang-in’s camp declared war on malicious commenters, invoking a “zero-tolerance policy with no leniency.”
