[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 13th that it had completed its own investigation into the so-called “Shincheonji intervention theory” raised during the August 17 party convention and was reviewing follow-up measures.
The Democratic Party of Korea told the press that day, “The investigation into Shincheonji members joining the party was recently concluded and reported to the Supreme Council,” adding, “The extent to which the findings will be made public and follow-up measures are under discussion.”
Party leaders reportedly received reports recently indicating that Shincheonji members had joined the party en masse, according to political circles. The party is also discussing the possibility of holding a closed-door meeting of lawmakers to share the investigation’s findings, including membership figures by region.
Immediately after the convention, Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok launched a “Party Membership Cleanup Task Force (TF),” appointed Supreme Council member Park Seon-won to head it, and instructed the TF to weed out people holding dual party memberships, phantom members, and members who had joined involuntarily without their consent.
Also, on the 7th, party leader Kim appeared on the party’s official YouTube channel, “Democratic Party TV,” and said, “Supreme Council member Park was in charge of investigating (the matter), and I understand the investigation has been wrapped up and they are reviewing how to make it public.”
