[Financial News] Woori Bank has donated 10 million won in support funds to the Ministry of National Defense’s Agency for KIA Recovery and Identification, which recovers and identifies the remains of Korean War fallen soldiers. After co-hosting an exhibition of the soldiers’ belongings and photographs last August, the bank visited the Agency to encourage service members and officials.
According to financial industry sources on the 13th, Woori Bank President Jeong Jin-wan visited the MND Agency for KIA Recovery and Identification inside the National Seoul Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, the previous day and expressed his gratitude for the hard work of its service members and officials. The visit, arranged to mark Armed Forces Day, was attended by officials from both organizations, including Agency chief Jeon Byeong-hui.
The support funds were provided to improve the welfare of Agency personnel and support the development of the unit. President Jeong and Woori Bank officials also toured the center for identifying fallen soldiers. They heard an explanation of the identification process, including DNA analysis, and paid tribute to the fallen heroes.
The two organizations previously co-hosted an “Exhibition of Korean War Fallen Soldiers’ Belongings and Photographs” at Woori Bank’s headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, during the Ulchi exercise last August. Woori Bank built on the relationship forged through that exhibition with this visit to pay tribute to the Agency.
“The peace and prosperity we enjoy today are built on the noble sacrifices of the fallen heroes who gave their lives for our country,” President Jeong said. “I offer my deepest respect and gratitude to everyone at the Agency for KIA Recovery and Identification who works tirelessly to bring them back to their homeland.” He added, “Woori Bank, too, will continue to do its part to remember and honor the sacrifices of our fallen heroes.”
Meanwhile, Woori Financial Group continues to support independence activists and veterans’ families. Last year, it signed an agreement with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation, and provides living expenses to independence activists and their families. It also operates the Woori Hero Support Program, which provides living and medical expenses to the families of military personnel, police officers and firefighters who have died or been injured in the line of duty.
