[Financial News] The Eco-friendly Ship Technology Demonstration Center at Korea Maritime & Ocean University showcased research achievements in key technologies for future eco-friendly hydrogen ships.
According to Korea Maritime & Ocean University on the 13th, the center took part in the Asia Startup Expo “FLY ASIA 2026,” held at BEXCO in Busan on the 7th and 8th, and presented key results from the research and development project “Development and Demonstration of Safety-Based Technology for Small Hydrogen-Powered Vessels,” which is being carried out with support from the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion (KIMST).
At its exhibition booth, the center unveiled LS Electric's shipboard DC-DC converter, NK's shipboard fuel-cell system, and Dongin Nsys's intelligent control-panel technology, developed by companies participating in the R&D project.
The technologies unveiled are high-efficiency, high-safety power-conversion infrastructure and key equipment for eco-friendly hydrogen fuel-cell vessels. As technologies linked to commercialization and intended for use on demonstration vessels, they drew the attention of representatives from domestic and international shipbuilding and marine-equipment companies and investment firms.
Center Director Kim Jong-su said, “By taking part in FLY ASIA 2026, we were able to highlight the technological competitiveness of key systems for next-generation eco-friendly hydrogen-powered vessels.” He added, “Going forward, we will continue to demonstrate our R&D achievements through close cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and KIMST, among others, and expand them into the local industrial sector and technology startup ecosystem, taking the lead in achieving technological self-reliance and commercialization for Korean-style eco-friendly ships.”
