[Financial News] Samsung SDI is down in the 6% range early in the session amid weakening investor sentiment across South Korea’s stock market.
As of 9:54 a.m. on the 13th, Samsung SDI was trading at 524,000 won, down 37,000 won (6.60%) from the previous trading day. The shares opened at 560,000 won and fell as low as 515,000 won during the session.
The sharp drop in South Korea’s stock market, with the KOSPI 200 index falling more than 5% today, is seen as having drawn selling pressure to Samsung SDI as well. Profit-taking after the share price rose over a short period recently also appears to have added to the downward pressure. No separate new disclosure that triggered the day’s decline was identified.
Samsung SDI shares surged 8.70% on the 6th and rose another 1.25% on the 8th. News of a supply contract worth about 6 trillion won with POSCO Future M for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials boosted investor sentiment.
POSCO Future M plans to supply LFP cathode materials to Samsung SDI from 2027 through 2032. The two companies agreed to expand their cooperation beyond its existing focus on nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) to include LFP cathode materials, lithium manganese oxide (LMO) cathode materials and synthetic graphite anode materials.
Samsung SDI plans to use this to secure battery materials that will help it respond to U.S. supply-chain regulations aimed at moving away from China, and to step up its push into the North American energy storage system (ESS) market.
