【Financial News, Hongcheon—Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Amid wide daily temperature swings and a clean environment, Hongcheon apples with high sugar content and firm flesh, will meet consumers in an urban forest in early November.
According to Hongcheon County on the 13th, the county will hold the 11th Hongcheon Apple Festival for three days, from November 6 to 8, at Tory Forest, an urban forest park in Hongcheon-eup. Local apple farmers are currently busy harvesting and shipping their crops at the optimal harvest time for each variety.
Apples such as Shinano Gold, Gamhong and Colorple, which have already been harvested, are being sorted and packed for delivery to consumers. Fuji apples, a late-ripening variety, are also set to be harvested soon, so visitors are expected to be able to enjoy a range of varieties at the festival.
Hongcheon apples have established themselves as a signature local agricultural specialty thanks to their outstanding taste. The county plans to use the festival to promote their quality to consumers and boost income for the farmers who grow them.

This year’s festival will feature apple sales and promotional booths, as well as hands-on programs and performances for visitors. In particular, the county plans to run a direct-sales market where producers and consumers can meet face-to-face, allowing visitors to taste fresh Hongcheon apples at the festival and buy them on the spot. The county intends to step up preparations as the festival approaches.
Yoon Seon-hwa, director of the Hongcheon County Agricultural Technology Center, said, “Since the festival is being held as the harvest continues from Shinano Gold and Gamhong through Fuji, we are preparing so visitors can taste freshly picked Hongcheon apples at the festival and buy them right there. We will put together the festival meticulously so farmers can expand their sales channels through direct sales and consumers can experience the true value of Hongcheon apples.”
