[Financial News] Celltrion is moving to target the Japanese market with Omlyclo, a biosimilar for treating allergic diseases. Its strategy is to showcase the product’s clinical evidence and supply capabilities at a global academic conference, build connections with local medical professionals and gain an early foothold in the market.
Celltrion said on the 13th that it will attend the World Allergy Congress (WAC 2026), taking place from the 15th to the 18th at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Japan. Around 7,000 medical professionals from around the world in the fields of allergy, respiratory medicine and immunology are expected to attend this year’s event.
At its exhibition booth, Celltrion will present Omlyclo’s clinical data, product strengths, and global manufacturing and supply capabilities. On the 16th, it will hold a seminar titled “Expanding Treatment Options Through Biosimilars: The Future of Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis Treatment,” where it plans to share with around 400 medical professionals clinical experience using omalizumab and the value of biosimilars.
Omlyclo is a biosimilar of omalizumab, a treatment for allergic diseases. Biosimilars are medicines shown to be equivalent to original biologic drugs in terms of quality, efficacy and safety. Omlyclo was approved in Japan in March for three indications—bronchial asthma, chronic idiopathic urticaria and seasonal allergic rhinitis—and Celltrion is preparing for its launch following price listing.
Celltrion plans to draw on the market experience and direct-sales infrastructure its existing products have built up in Japan to help Omlyclo gain a foothold there as well. According to IQVIA, a pharmaceutical market research firm, Remsima, a treatment for autoimmune diseases, ranked first in Japan in July this year with a 48% market share. Yuflyma led among related biosimilars with a 21% share, while the market shares of the cancer drugs Herzuma and Vegzelma were 78% and 64%, respectively.
Celltrion is also making inroads in overseas markets. Launched in Europe last September, Omlyclo had a 21% market share as of the first quarter of this year. Global sales in the first half of this year totaled 188.4 billion won. Following its launch in the U.S. market on the 5th, the company is pursuing entry into Japan and other major markets.
A Celltrion representative said, “Building on the trust and direct-sales infrastructure that Remsima and Herzuma, among other products, have established in Japan, we will work to help Omlyclo gain an early foothold in the allergy treatment market as well.”
