On the 13th, according to financial authorities and other sources, the FSS began an on-site inspection of Yegaram Savings Bank. As AI-powered cyberattacks have intensified recently, Yegaram Savings Bank suffered a personal data leak. The FSS plans to investigate the cause of the incident and how the information was leaked.
Yegaram Savings Bank said on the 30th of last month, “We confirmed indications that personal information had been leaked as a result of an unidentified hacker accessing a server containing customers’ personal information.”
About 50,000 records of customers’ personal information—including names, dates of birth, contact details, account numbers, resident registration numbers, workplace names and addresses—are believed to have been leaked in the attack.
In the initial notice Yegaram Savings Bank posted on the 2nd to announce the leak, it listed only customers’ names, dates of birth and contact details as having been exposed. After it became known that resident registration numbers, account numbers and addresses had also been leaked, the bank later amended the notice.
The savings bank said it had taken the necessary emergency measures as soon as it became aware of the leak, including suspending the relevant services and blocking external IP addresses, and had strengthened security monitoring to prevent further damage from spreading.
The FSS plans to decide later whether to escalate the inspection to a formal examination, depending on how the inspection proceeds.
