[Financial News] A past remark by YouTuber Park Wi that he would run a couples’ YouTube channel after getting married has once again drawn attention. After he faced criticism for releasing footage of an accident while getting off a KTX train, videos of his previous appearances are also being revisited.
The remark came in a video titled “A First Meeting with a Woman Even Weracle, Who Overcame Full-Body Paralysis, Couldn’t Handle,” posted on the YouTube channel Mobidic in April 2022.
At the time, Park Wi appeared on “Lalal’s Ghostwriting Diary,” a segment centered on discussion of his autobiography. When host Lalal asked him to make a pitch about something that wasn’t in the book, Park Wi replied, “When I get married, I’ll become one of the ‘couple YouTubers.’”
After hearing this, Lalal joked with Park Wi, who had even planned to run a YouTube channel after getting married. Lalal said, “Are you announcing it now? Are you asking for an article?” and added, “So this is business too! That’s so crafty.”
The show also touched on how he is seen by the public. When Lalal asked, “Is there a real side of you that people don’t know about?”, Park Wi replied, “For one thing, other media outlets always ask me such serious questions and interview me, so there are many cases where people don’t really know what I’m like.”
Park Wi’s past remark resurfaced after the recent controversy over the release of footage of the KTX accident. On the 14th of last month, he fell after tripping over the foot of a social service worker who was bracing a ramp with their foot as he got off a KTX train. He later posted CCTV footage of the incident on his YouTube channel Weracle, bringing the issue to light.
However, after the footage was released, criticism continued online that Park Wi’s response had gone too far. Critics questioned whether it was appropriate to post CCTV footage showing the worker’s mistake on a channel with 1 million subscribers, even though the social service worker had apologized several times.
Park Wi later apologized, saying, “I didn’t think it through.” However, negative reactions have continued since the controversy, with some subscribers leaving the channel, and his past appearances and remarks are being shared again, prompting further criticism and unverified speculation.
Meanwhile, Park Wi suffered a fall in 2014 and was diagnosed with full-body paralysis. After undergoing rehabilitation, he regained the ability to move his upper body. In October 2024, he married singer and actress Song Ji-eun.
