[Financial News] Disputes continue over the so-called practice of “saving” an empty parking spot by having someone stand in it first. After a driver said a woman claiming a spot forced them to park elsewhere, a flood of reproachful responses asked, “Why did you move aside?”
According to the online community Bobaedream on the 13th, a post was uploaded the previous day with the title “A woman blocked me from parking and hit my car with her hand.”
According to tipster A, the incident took place on the 30th of last month in a university parking lot in Seoul’s Seodaemun-gu district. A claimed, “I turned on my hazard lights and slowly reversed to park, but when the car approached, [a woman] hit it with her hand.”
The woman reportedly blocked the car from entering while holding the vacant parking spot, saying, “This is my spot,” and, “There’s a spot here—why are you pulling in?”
A said, “Cars were backed up one after another behind me, so I eventually parked somewhere else.” A added, “Later, I texted the person associated with that car, but was told that I was the unreasonable one.”
Netizens’ reactions to the story were divided. The response that drew the most agreement was criticism of A’s passive handling of the situation.
Many netizens expressed frustration, saying, “Why give way and let yourself be taken for a sucker?” “Why post something that just makes us angry when you didn’t even teach them a lesson?” and “You should have let the traffic back up further and the horns blare until there was chaos.”
Others defended A’s decision. One netizen said, “Didn’t you move aside because you were worried the cars behind you would be left waiting and inconvenienced?” and added in A’s defense, “You did the right thing by avoiding a confrontation. If you insisted on holding your ground and someone got hurt, it could end up backfiring on you.”
Text messages exchanged between tipster A and the other vehicle’s side. When A asked for an apology, saying, “Isn’t it wrong to hit a car while unreasonably blocking someone from parking?”, the reply was, “I think you’re the more unreasonable one.” /Photo: Bobaedream
