[Financial News] Police have sought an arrest warrant for a man in his 20s suspected of killing his mother-in-law while a marriage-annulment suit was underway and fleeing with his wife held captive in a car.
According to police on the 12th, Seoul’s Songpa Police Station sought an arrest warrant for the man, identified as A, at around 5:13 p.m. that day on charges of murder of a lineal ascendant and special confinement.
A is suspected of killing his mother-in-law, who was in her 50s, in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the previous morning, then fleeing with his wife, who is in her 20s, in a car.
His mother-in-law was taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest but eventually died. A, who fled with his wife immediately after the crime, was arrested by police later that day at around 12:35 p.m. on a wooded hillside in Yangyang County, Gangwon Province.
A reportedly admitted to most of the allegations during questioning but said, in effect, that he had committed the crime impulsively. Police plan to further investigate his precise motive and the circumstances of the crime, and whether it was premeditated.
It was also confirmed that A had been investigated on suspicion of domestic violence against his wife before the crime.
The police investigation began in August, when A asked police to find his wife and she reported that she had suffered domestic violence. After obtaining statements that assaults had also taken place in Gwonseon District, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, where the couple had previously lived, police transferred the case to Suwon Gwonseon Police Station on August 31.
Gwonseon Police Station asked A to appear for questioning, but he did not comply, so officers were unable to interview him in person. On the 4th of last month, the station obtained a search-and-seizure warrant and tried to execute it about three times, but could not do so because A’s whereabouts could not be confirmed.
The temporary measures imposed on A, including a restraining order, expired on the 30th of last month. Police reapplied for temporary measures on the 6th of this month, but the crime occurred before the court issued a decision.
