Kim Jin-o, vice chair of the Presidential Committee on Ageing Society and Population Policy (third from left), officials from the Incheon branch of the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association, and Ko Jeong-su, a vice president of Maeil Dairies, pose for a commemorative photo after Maeil Dairies received the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the 21st Pregnant Women’s Day ceremony held at M Gallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 8th.

[Financial News] Maeil Dairies was recognized for its contributions to addressing the low birthrate crisis, including supporting families with pregnant women and young children and producing special formula for children with rare diseases.
According to industry sources on the 12th, Maeil Dairies received the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the 21st Pregnant Women’s Day ceremony held at M Gallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 8th. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and organized by the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association.
The award recognized Maeil Dairies’ sustained efforts over some 50 years, guided by its corporate philosophy of “cherishing every single life,” including supporting families with pregnant women and young children, producing special formula for children with inborn errors of metabolism, and setting an example in family-friendly management.
Maeil Dairies is the only company in South Korea producing special formula for children with inborn errors of metabolism, a rare condition that affects about 1 in 50,000 people. Because they lack certain enzymes in their bodies, children with the condition cannot consume breast milk or ordinary foods, and must either consume special formula for life or maintain a strict diet. Carrying on the convictions of its late founder, Chairman Kim Bok-yong, Maeil Dairies has produced eight types of special formula across 12 products for 27 years, since 1999.
The company also continues to provide employee benefits and carry out social contribution activities. Since becoming the first company in the dairy industry to be certified for family-friendly management in 2009, Maeil Dairies has offered employee benefits including support for fertility treatments, childbirth congratulatory payments, and formula products. It also organizes “babymoon” trips for expectant parents and continues to support welfare organizations such as the Holy Family Adoption Center and Jaona School, which help adopted children and single mothers become self-reliant.
A Maeil Dairies spokesperson said, “Receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation is a meaningful outcome that recognizes our long-standing commitment to valuing life and our efforts to support pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing. We will continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility as a reliable parenting partner, so that not a single child is left behind and all parents can raise their children in good health with peace of mind.”
