[Financial News] After a YouTube video using a shamanic reading to address whether Perry (real name Thomas Perry Borja), a producer and rapper formerly with YG Entertainment whose whereabouts have long been unknown, was alive or dead was released, his former colleague Song Baek-kyung, a former member of 1TYM, publicly unleashed a torrent of criticism.
On the 12th, Song Baek-kyung shared on his social media a screenshot from a shaman’s fortune-telling video and expressed his displeasure, saying, “I didn’t really want to watch the video, but somehow I ended up seeing it. And it made me shake with anger too.”
He went on to rebuke the shaman, saying, “So this is what you mean by asking everything you need to ask and then using your judgment? What do you know about another person’s life to speak so carelessly, declaring them alive or dead?”
In the video that sparked controversy, the shaman looked at a photo of Perry and made a series of remarks hinting that he had died, saying, “His face looks pitch-black. Is he really alive?” and “I don’t think this person is here.” The shaman also made sensational claims with no specific evidence, including “It seems he went down a bad path” and “I saw a needle,” suggesting drugs and the like.
In response, Song Baek-kyung took aim at the baseless fortune-telling, saying, “I can see something pitch-black too. That’s what’s in your heart, lady.”
Perry is a key producer who helped establish YG’s early hip-hop sound, beginning with his work on Jinusean’s 1997 debut album and going on to work on hit songs by 1TYM, Se7en, Lexy, Wheesung and BigBang, among others. But he has been out of contact for about 16 years, with speculation that he was missing persisting since the last reports of a sighting in Los Angeles (LA), United States, in 2010. In 2021, a person who said they were Perry’s niece or nephew said they had filed a missing-person report with the U.S. Department of State. More recently, the production team for SBS’s Unanswered Questions also appealed to the public for information to trace his whereabouts, once again drawing widespread attention.
Song Baek-kyung has continued to hope for his colleague’s safe return, recalling the time he worked on music with Perry and sharing messages wishing him well as well as unreleased tracks.
