According to the Financial Services Commission, Lee exchanged views during a meeting at Government Complex Seoul with SC Group CFO Manus Costello and CRO Jason Forrester on accelerating the financial industry's artificial intelligence transformation (AX) and building safe and responsible AX in response.
They also exchanged views on South Korea's push to become a global financial hub. In the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) rankings released last September by UK financial consultancy Z/Yen, Seoul ranked seventh and Busan 22nd, both their highest positions ever. SC Group representatives highlighted South Korea's large-scale exports and industrial base, the growth potential of its capital markets, and its digital capabilities, saying the country had a sufficient foundation to emerge as a financial hub.
Lee said that, based on the seventh Basic Plan for Financial Centers announced last August, he would continue to improve the institutional framework and environment to help South Korea become a global financial hub. Before this, Lee had also held a series of meetings to discuss global capital flows with key figures, including Goldman Sachs Asia-Pacific head Kevin Sneader, who recently visited Seoul, and Jude Abdel-Majid, BlackRock's co-head of Global Partners, as well as senior figures from Nasdaq in the United States, the U.S. Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing.
