[Financial News] Actor Kim Se-in, who appeared in the sitcom Oh My God and other productions, has revealed that during an earlier period in the entertainment industry, the head of the agency they belonged to pressured them to date and cheated them out of their appearance fees and money they had lent, among other forms of mistreatment.
Kim Se-in appeared in a video released on the YouTube channel Into Everyday Life on the 9th and gave a detailed account of why they left the entertainment industry and the mistreatment they experienced at their former agency. They said they began acting at age five after taking part in a children’s pageant and went on to work as an extra. “When I was in middle school, we’d film for 24 hours and I’d get paid 7,000 won. The conditions were terrible,” they began.
They said they endured severe financial hardship after the head of their agency took their money. Kim Se-in said, “The agency head ran off with the appearance fees I’d worked so hard to earn. I had to pay rent, and when they asked to borrow money, I lent them the few million won I had on hand. They disappeared with that money too, and I went through a lot.”
Kim Se-in also revealed that they faced personal demands made through an abuse of power, as well as retaliatory treatment. “Around the time the late Jang Ja-yeon case came to light, I was going through something similar too,” they recalled. “I only found out what was happening when a crew member contacted me on the day of filming and asked why I hadn’t come in.”
Kim Se-in went on to claim, “As it turned out, the day before, the head of my agency had called me out for drinks and threatened, ‘If you won’t date me, I’ll cancel all your shoots.’ When I said I had no intention of dating them and refused, they deliberately hid the shooting schedule and didn’t tell me about it.”
They added that they had also suffered the abuse of being “tied down”—bound by a long-term exclusive contract and prevented from taking on other work. “They kept me under a five-year contract and wouldn’t let me out of it. The abuses by unscrupulous agency heads continued,” they said.
Kim Se-in, who became known for appearing in the film Whispering Corridors 3: Wishing Stairs and the SBS sitcom Oh My God, eventually left the entertainment industry. After working as a tour guide abroad, among other jobs, Kim now reportedly works sorting packages at a logistics center and does delivery work part-time while caring for their mother, who has been battling an illness for 15 years.
