【Hanoi, Vietnam—Correspondent Jun-seok Kim】HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding (HVS) has once again demonstrated its world-class shipbuilding quality and ability to meet production schedules by holding a naming ceremony for two 50,000-ton-class oil tankers.
According to local media on the 12th, HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding held a joint naming ceremony on the 8th at its facility in Khanh Hoa Province for two 50,000-ton-class oil tankers, hull numbers S576 and S577. The ceremony was attended by company executives and employees, including company head Jin Sang-ho (executive vice president), as well as representatives of the shipowner, customer companies and partner firms.
The shipowner’s representative, who attended the ceremony, named hull S576 Atlantic Aurora and hull S577 Atlantic Challenger.
The two ships measure 183.06 meters in length, 32.2 meters in width and 19.1 meters in height, and are equipped with main engines from HD Hyundai. They sail under the Marshall Islands flag and are classed by the Korean Register (KR). The entire construction process was completed in about 10 months from the start of construction.
After the naming ceremony, Atlantic Aurora was successfully delivered to the shipowner on the 9th, while Atlantic Challenger is scheduled for final delivery on the 22nd.
Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding is responsible for at least 80% of all vessel deliveries in Vietnam. At the group level, HD Hyundai is finding a clear breakthrough against the low-price offensive from Chinese shipbuilders: its overseas shipbuilding belt linking India, Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries is diversifying its global production bases. Vietnam in particular is a country to which HD Hyundai is devoting special attention. The company plans to increase its production capacity from the current level of around 15 ships a year to 23 a year by 2030. In 2025, HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding delivered a total of 17 vessels, ranging in size from 50,000 to 115,000 tons, and recorded revenue of $691 million.
