[Financial News] A total of 20 million won has been raised to support the livelihoods and recovery of people affected by the Venezuela earthquake and Nepal floods. Ten million won will be provided for each disaster site.
According to the Korean Red Cross on the 12th, Soroptimist International Korea Association donated funds for international disaster relief on the 8th. The funds will be used, in line with conditions on the ground, to support affected people’s livelihoods, restore damaged areas and provide relief supplies.
Association President Kim Jin-seon said, “I hope this will offer at least some support to women and girls, who may be even more vulnerable in disaster situations.”
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) explains that vulnerability to disasters and the resulting impacts can vary according to factors such as gender, age and physical ability. Its relief efforts emphasize ensuring women and girls can safely access menstrual hygiene products and that people affected by disasters can access facilities, supplies and services.
Soroptimist is an international women’s volunteer organization that began in Oakland, United States, in 1921. In 2023, the Korea Association also donated 15 million won toward recovery efforts following the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.
