[Financial News] People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin criticized the leadership of party leader Jang Dong-hyuk, saying, “It seems to have foundered badly before the election.”
On the 12th, Bae appeared on SBS radio’s “Kim Tae-hyun’s Political Show” and responded to the host’s question about the mood within the party, saying, “Most of our lawmakers aren’t interested in Jang right now.”
Bae said, “Jang himself is just holding on, but lawmakers seem to think that, in the natural course of things, his leadership will be replaced at some point anyway. Honestly, nobody is interested in what Jang is up to. Most lawmakers seem to be thinking along the lines of, ‘Should we take the approach of bringing Jang down?’”
Asked whether Jang would serve out his two-year term and run again at the next party convention, she predicted, “Since Jang has presidential ambitions, I think he’ll keep running.”
She continued, “I think this whole debacle was triggered by the disciplinary proceedings involving lawmaker Han Dong-hoon and a distorted sense of rivalry that should never have surfaced,” adding, “When I look at Jang Dong-hyuk as a person, I often feel deeply sorry for him.” She added, “But as party leader, Jang Dong-hyuk’s leadership has been undermined for a long time.”
Bae also spoke about the issue of independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon rejoining the party.
She said, “I think that, too, will happen in due course,” and assessed, “Han himself has continued to cultivate relationships with lawmakers with a sincerity of his own, and made his presence felt in the National Assembly by raising issues concerning Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won.”
She added, “(Han) is in a period of proving himself to the public now, isn’t he? I think it will happen in due course.”
