[Financial News] The last KTX train departing Seoul close to 11 p.m. for Dongdaegu will terminate at Seodaegu Station starting on the 30th.
According to the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) on the 12th, the train whose route is being shortened is KTX 137. It usually leaves Seoul Station at 10:58 p.m. and reaches Dongdaegu Station at 1:05 a.m. the next day. During the adjustment period, it will stop after arriving at Seodaegu Station at 12:56 a.m.
A switch, the subject of the work, is equipment that changes a train’s route so it can move from one track to another. Track equipment replacement is usually carried out late at night, when trains are not running. Korail has decided to temporarily suspend the final segment of the last train’s route to secure the 4.5 hours needed overnight to replace a switch at Daegu Station on the Gyeongbu Line.
Passengers traveling to Dongdaegu have two alternative trains. KTX 83 departs Seoul at 10:28 p.m. and arrives at Dongdaegu at 12:18 a.m.; KTX 159 departs at 10:49 p.m. and reaches Dongdaegu at 12:30 a.m. Train 159 runs only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Seodaegu Station, which will become the last train’s temporary terminus, is a high-speed rail station serving western Daegu where KTX trains have stopped since March 31, 2022. On the Gyeongbu Line, it faces Dongdaegu Station across Daegu Station, where construction is underway. When Seodaegu Station opened, KTX trains stopped there 26 times on weekdays and 28 times on weekends. Since September 1 this year, following an agreement between Daegu City and Korail, the number of high-speed train stops, including SRT, has increased to 38 on weekdays (28 KTX and 10 SRT) and 41 on weekends (30 KTX and 11 SRT).
Korail plans to publicize the revised train schedules through its Korail+ mobile app, website and information displays at stations.
Lee Min-seong, head of Korail’s Passenger Business Division, said, “As facility improvement work to ensure safe train operations makes a temporary adjustment to the service route unavoidable, please check the revised train information before traveling.”
