[Financial News] It has been revealed that the urn containing the remains of the late Anita Mui, a representative singer and actress of Hong Kong, has disappeared from its burial site. Although local police have been investigating for nearly three months, the whereabouts of the urn remain unconfirmed.
According to China News Network and Hong Kong public broadcaster RTHK on the 12th, Anita Mui's international fan club released an appeal from the bereaved family via social media on the night of the 10th, which was the deceased's birthday. The fan club asked for tips from anyone who knows information that could help locate the urn.
The fact that the urn had disappeared became known on July 18 when fans visited the burial site. According to the family, fans visiting the Hai Hui Pagoda at Baolian Zen Temple on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, discovered that the screws on the doorplate of the space where Anita Mui's urn was kept were loose. They subsequently searched the interior but could not find the urn.
The bereaved family, having heard this news from fans, reported it to the police. On the 11th, the Hong Kong police confirmed to the China News Service that they "received a report regarding this on July 18." Regarding the current status of the investigation, they explained that "the Lantau Police District's Violent Crime Investigation Team is conducting the investigation."
However, the police have not yet confirmed whether the urn was stolen. The case has been classified as a 'request for police assistance,' and no arrests have been made in connection with it.
The temple maintains that it is difficult to conclude that the urn was taken outside. An official from Baolian Zen Temple told the Hong Kong media outlet Sing Tao, "(The urn) is likely still here." They explained that the temple is equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) and security personnel, and that no unusual signs have been detected.
The bereaved family is asking for the public's help to find the urn containing the remains. They said, "We want to find Anita Mui's remains as soon as possible so she can rest in peace," and asked people to report it if they saw a suspicious person near the temple or have photos or dashcam footage of the situation at the time.
Anita Mui, who was active as a singer and actress in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s, became well-known in Korea through various works.
