People Power Party Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won strongly criticized excessive political interference in semiconductor companies and called for political intervention to stop.
At a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 12th, Supreme Council member Kim pointed to the conditions facing domestic semiconductor companies, citing analyses by foreign media and saying, “Samsung Electronics is seeing its stock price plunge despite achieving results that even global big tech companies have failed to achieve.”
He said, “According to a Bloomberg analysis, pressure from political circles to build factories at unsuitable locations is leading to warnings about investing in Korean semiconductor companies.”
He went on to mention SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won and stressed, “Pursuing factory construction in locations that are not yet ready is an act of breach of trust that harms companies and ruins South Korea’s semiconductor industry.”
Finally, Supreme Council member Kim called on political circles to stop unnecessary interference and work to improve the business environment so that domestic semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix can maintain their global competitiveness.
