【Financial News, Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su】 Namdong-gu, Incheon, has set out to foster the semiconductor parts industry and expand jobs for skilled workers by attracting a new plant from Dongwon Parts, a key partner of a global semiconductor equipment maker. The plan is to draw companies linked to global supply chains to the area, upgrade the industrial structure of the Namdong Industrial Complex and spur growth among related companies.
Namdong-gu announced on the 12th that Dongwon Parts, a precision semiconductor parts manufacturer, has decided to build its seventh plant at the Namdong Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex and move in.
Dongwon Parts is a key partner of Lam Research, a global semiconductor equipment maker. Buoyed by investment in technology and the expansion of global supply chains, its revenue rose by more than 50% last year from the previous year. The new plant is expected to serve as a production base to meet growing demand for parts from global customers.
The plant’s operation is also expected to have a ripple effect on local industry. Demand for skilled workers in fields such as precision machining, quality inspection and design could increase, and employment opportunities are also expected to expand for local young people with relevant technical skills. If demand grows for the equipment, materials and technical services needed to produce and inspect parts, related companies in the area could also gain business opportunities.
Namdong-gu plans to use the attraction of the plant as an opportunity to expand the foundation of the semiconductor materials, parts and equipment (MPE) industry. A growing number of companies participating in global semiconductor supply chains could also help increase the value added of existing manufacturing and strengthen the competitiveness of local industry.
Namdong-gu Mayor Lee Byeong-rae said, “Attracting Dongwon Parts’ new plant is an opportunity to boost the competitiveness of local industry and expand high-quality jobs,” adding, “We will continue to provide administrative support so the company can establish itself and grow steadily.”
