[Financial News] The story of two young siblings who picked up litter discarded on their neighborhood streets has become a hot topic online.
On the 11th, a post titled “What should we do about these siblings? Please give them lots of praise” and photos were uploaded to the online community Bobaedream.
The photos show a boy holding a plastic bag full of trash, with a girl standing beside him. They are siblings: an 8-year-old boy in first grade at B Elementary School in Namdong-gu, Incheon, and his 6-year-old younger sister.
The poster, identified as A and saying they belonged to a small volunteer group, began: “While carrying out our first neighborhood cleanup activity on the 10th, we saw two siblings picking up trash who had absolutely nothing to do with us.”
A added: “When we went over and asked, they said, ‘I came out because I wanted to play outside with my younger sibling, but there was so much trash on the street that I brought a plastic bag and plastic gloves.’ They had picked up and gathered the trash with their little hands.”
A wrote: “They even picked up empty bottles that were heavy for a young child to carry. It was so admirable. Seeing the children’s backs gleam in the sunlight, I was overcome at the same time with guilt as an adult for not leaving them clean streets.”
A said: “I took photos because I wanted to praise the children for their pure and lovely hearts. If their parents happen to see this post, please praise them a lot. I want to tell you that you’ve raised them wonderfully. Thanks to the two siblings, it was a heartwarming weekend afternoon. Kids, thank you.”
People who read the story responded: “You don’t even have to see their parents to know. They raised their kids well”; “Minister of Education, please give them an award”; and “It’s amazing. It’s not easy to be so mature at that age.”
