【Financial News | Ulsan = Reporter Choi Soo-sang】Ulsan City is drawing attention for providing household support services to families with at least five children aged 18 or younger.
According to Ulsan City on the 12th, the Household Support Service for Families with Multiple Children is part of its efforts to address the low birth rate and is a city-run pilot program that has been underway since May. The service helps with everyday household chores such as cleaning, laundry and tidying up, and is provided twice a month for three hours per session.
The cost is 62,000 won per session, which Ulsan City covers in full. Families wishing to use the service can apply at the administrative welfare center serving their place of residence, select a household service provider themselves, use the service and then claim the cost.
There are currently 41 households in Ulsan with at least five children aged 18 or younger, and 10 of them are using the service.
Ulsan City expects that easing the household workload for families with multiple children will give parents more time to care for their children and spend time with their families. Based on the results of this year's pilot, the city is considering increasing the service to four visits a month from next year.
A city official said, “Since this is the first policy of its kind to be implemented in Ulsan, it is still unfamiliar, and relatively few households are using it,” adding, “We are working on supplementary measures to make it a practical support policy that eases the burden of daily life for families with multiple children.”
