【Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】Min Hyung-bae, mayor of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Gwangju Special Mayor), said on the 12th, “I will begin working regularly from the Muan office to resolve pending issues in the southwestern region and lay the groundwork for new growth.”
Mayor Min made the remarks at a press conference in the briefing room at the Muan office that day, saying, “This is a place where unresolved tasks have piled up, and I will take direct charge, exercising the authority and shouldering the responsibility of the mayor.”
He also stressed, “This is to personally oversee on the ground the urgent tasks facing the southwestern region, including building a regionally self-contained healthcare system and relocating the military airport, and to extend the benefits of integration across Jeonnam and Gwangju.”
Mayor Min first said, “We will work to address gaps in critical and essential medical care in the southwestern region.” He said the aim was to focus on building a regionally self-contained healthcare system to protect citizens’ right to life.
He then said, “On relocating the military airport, we will take the wishes of Muan County residents into account and flesh out a support plan for the host area.” The plan is to seek practical solutions under the principle of mutual prosperity and step up efforts to revitalize Muan International Airport.
Mayor Min also stressed, “We will devote efforts to strengthening the industrial foundations of the southwestern region.” He said he would do his utmost to ensure opportunities in the semiconductor industry spread throughout the integrated special city, and that Muan National Industrial Complex would be developed into one of the pillars of the Honam region’s semiconductor industry ecosystem.
He also said, “We will connect Sinan’s abundant renewable energy resources, Haenam’s National AI Computing Center, and the shipbuilding industry foundations in Yeongam and Mokpo to create a new growth engine.”
Finally, Mayor Min said, “True integration means that citizens’ rights are equally respected wherever they live and that they can share in opportunities for growth.” He added, “We will ensure industrial growth leads to tangible investment and jobs, and that its benefits improve citizens’ lives. First, we will resolve the long-standing challenges of the southwestern region and lay the foundations for new growth.”
