[Financial News] Hanwha Ocean is recruiting specialists in nuclear-powered vessels. In preparation for the Jangbogo-N Project, a Korean-type nuclear-powered submarine development program, the company has proactively established a dedicated organization and begun securing the necessary personnel.
Hanwha Ocean said on the 12th that it is hiring experienced employees in five fields related to nuclear-powered vessels. Applicants must have at least five years of experience in the relevant field, and applications will be accepted through the 25th.
This recruitment drive is linked to the recently established Jangbogo N Development Group. Hanwha Ocean formed the group to develop core technologies in-house and lay the groundwork for carrying out the project in line with the government's nuclear-powered submarine program schedule.
A nuclear-powered submarine uses a reactor as its power source. Compared with diesel-electric submarines, it can remain submerged for longer periods and is better suited to sustained high-speed operation. Last May, the government named the program the Jangbogo-N Project in its Basic Plan for the Development of a Korean Nuclear-Powered Submarine, setting a target of launching the first vessel in the mid-2030s. Efforts are also underway to establish an institutional framework: on the 29th of last month, a bill to enact a special law covering the acquisition and operation of nuclear-powered submarines and their safety management passed a Cabinet meeting.
Drawing on its experience participating in the construction of all Jangbogo I, II and III submarines, Hanwha Ocean plans to continue expanding recruitment in related fields. The company aims to centralize cooperation with relevant organizations, including the government and the Navy, through the newly established development group, and to build the technical and personnel base needed to win and carry out future projects.
The recruitment fields are: integration design for nuclear and propulsion systems; piping layout and stress analysis; instrumentation and control (I&C) integration design; nuclear licensing and safety regulation; and nuclear quality. Design personnel will be responsible for integrating the nuclear propulsion system with the vessel, arranging piping and systems inside the vessel, and integrating instrumentation and control systems. Those in licensing and safety regulation will analyze relevant laws and regulations and develop response strategies, while those in quality will establish and verify quality assurance and management systems for the nuclear systems as a whole. Detailed job information and application submissions are available on Hanwha Ocean's official recruitment website.
Choi Jeong-hun, a senior managing director and head of the Jangbogo N Development Group in Hanwha Ocean's Special Ship Business Division, said, “Unlike existing reactors for land-based applications and commercial vessels, we will proactively recruit nuclear energy specialists to prepare for a completely new reactor environment involving sharp turns, rapid maneuvers and mitigation of explosive impacts, and diligently prepare for this key national project.”
