[Financial News] Seoul’s Jamwon Hangang Park parking lot has become the subject of claims that a person took up an empty parking space instead of a car, preventing another driver from parking. The woman, reportedly engaging in so-called “human parking-space squatting,” is also said to have argued with a driver who was trying to park.
According to social media posts on the 11th, a woman identified as A released footage of the incident under the title “Parking Menace at the Jamwon-dong Riverside.”
The footage shows a woman standing behind a black Mercedes-Benz SUV coupe and occupying an empty parking space. When she refused to move, an argument over parking broke out between her and A’s group, who were filming.
A claimed that the attendant on site had not told the woman to hold the parking space. The video caption also read, “The attendant came over and said they had never told her to do that.”
The two sides reportedly argued over who could use the parking space first. According to one media outlet, when A asked the woman to move, saying the car should park first, the woman and her husband claimed, “We’ve been waiting a long time, so it’s okay,” and “We just did what the attendant told us to do.” An insult was also reportedly shouted during the exchange: “Hey, you [expletive]!”
A explained that she initially posted the footage without blurring anyone’s face, but edited the post after her husband urged her not to do so.
She also said that a broadcaster contacted her after she posted the video. A said, “I thought I was going to pass out when I saw a direct message (DM) from JTBC’s ‘Sageon Banjang’ on Instagram,” adding, “I’m learning how to blur the video until dawn so I can repost it.”
After the video was posted, people online criticized the act of having a person occupy a parking space first. Users left comments such as, “Lots of unblurred videos are already circulating,” “That person needs to learn what shame is,” and “Everyone already knows who they are. I hope they reflect on their actions.”
