Busan City Agricultural Technology Center announced on the 12th that it would launch the “Growing Up on Busan Rice!” event to celebrate the birth of children born in Busan and promote the value and quality of Busan rice.
The program is for babies born this year to guardians residing in the city. On a first-come, first-served basis, 200 babies will receive Busan rice weighing the same as they did at birth.
Families wishing to participate can apply through the online application page from that day through the 23rd.
For eligible newborns, Hwanggeumyechan rice harvested in Busan this year will be weighed and packaged to match the weight recorded on each baby’s birth certificate, then delivered to the applicant families from the 28th through the 4th of next month. The packaging will display information about the baby’s birth weight and Busan rice, adding to the meaning of the birth-congratulation gift.
The city also plans to invite three to five participating families to a ceremony presenting Busan rice as a birth-congratulation gift and take commemorative photos at the “39th Busan Farmers’ Festival,” to be held on the 28th at the lawn plaza of Daejeo Ecological Park.
“This event was planned to mark the 39th Busan Farmers’ Festival, widely promote to citizens the value of Hwanggeumyechan, a high-quality local specialty rice produced in Busan, and lay the groundwork for sustained rice consumption with future generations,” said Park Mi-jin, director of Busan City Agricultural Technology Center.
