【Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju | Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】Gwangju Bank President Jeong Il-seon said on the 12th, “We will continue to pay close attention to financial blind spots and practice inclusive finance, serving as a reliable financial partner whom local residents can turn to in difficult times.”
President Jeong said this while joining the “Finance That Saves Lives” relay campaign that day, stressing, “The financial sector’s continued attention and role are important to protect financial consumers from illegal private lending.”
According to Gwangju Bank, the “Finance That Saves Lives” relay campaign is a public-private initiative launched by the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency last July. Its aim is to raise public awareness and promote the value of inclusive finance so that financially vulnerable people who struggle to access institutional finance because of low credit scores or limited financial transaction histories are not driven into illegal private lending.
The campaign takes the form of a relay in which participants share the message, “Finance That Saves Lives will protect you so that you are no longer driven into illegal private lending,” and nominate the next participant.
President Jeong joined the campaign after being nominated by Toss Bank CEO Lee Eun-mi, and nominated BC Card CEO Kim Young-woo as the next participant in the relay. The two companies have maintained a cooperative relationship for many years in various areas, including the card business. Since joining BC Card as a full member in March last year, Gwangju Bank has expanded its card services by leveraging BC Card’s payment and marketing infrastructure, and has introduced various co-branded cards, including the Kia Champions Card in partnership with the KIA Tigers.
President Jeong said, “I joined the campaign to prevent harm from illegal private lending and raise public awareness about protecting financially vulnerable people,” adding, “Together with our employees, I have joined in the effort to promote the values of ‘Finance That Saves Lives.’”
Gwangju Bank has been working to improve access to financial services and address financial blind spots so that ordinary people and financially vulnerable groups can get the help they need within the institutional financial system.
It also continues to carry out various initiatives to protect financial consumers and prevent financial fraud, creating an environment where local residents can use financial services more safely and conveniently.
In particular, it is actively advancing locally rooted inclusive finance by participating in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Inclusive Finance Complex Support Center, which opened on September 30 in Gwangsan-gu, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. Together with relevant organizations such as the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency and the Credit Counseling and Recovery Service, the bank is building a one-stop support system that links financial, employment and welfare consultations with financial services.
